WE3 (Comic Book Review)

|

WE3 is a remarkable mini series written by comic book genius Grant Morrison who is also known for Seaguy, Batman Arkham Asylum and the New Adventures of Hitler to name a few. The plot of WE3 is revolved around three animals, a cat, dog, and rabbit that have been placed in robotic armor carrying all types of guns, claws, land mines and maybe even TI's guns. I also think that my cat has one of these suits stashed some where in the house. Our three heroes have brain implants and the capability to talk, they escape the government facility in search of "home." While searching for home they run across people willing to help and some that want them dead.

WE3 is a really deep comic in the sense of comparing the three animals to different races and culture bonding together to reach one common goal. Its worth checking out and hopefully the movie will see light of day. If the movie isn't released come to the crib and watch my cat, its the same difference. Blessings to everybody.

Thought Process of A Gamer: Cutterbups

| Monday, February 21, 2011
Whats going on everybody, its the 1081 asshole back once again, yet its me Costa making my special appearance. I am proud to present to you another featured gamer check out Cutterbups, it really makes me proud to feature female gamers that can hold their own.

1. Tell us about yourself, where are you from?
Originally from central Alberta, Canada. But currently living in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.

2. For me the first video game that turned me into a joystick junkie was Killer Instinct for the Super Nintendo. What title changed "it" all for you?

I have memories of playing my fathers Atari at a very young age and playing NES at my grandma's house. As she was a gamer too. Really as long as I can remember I've had a controller in my hand or been at arcades. But the game that absolutely got me hooked and obsessed with gaming would have to be Final Fantasy 6. Originally released in North American on the SNES as Final Fantasy 3.

3. What are some of your favorite games, what are your currently playing right now, what titles are you looking forward too?

Some of my favorite games would have to be Chrono Trigger, the Splinter Cell series (excluding Splinter Cell Conviction) and the Final Fantasy series.

Games I'm currently playing... LOL that seems to change on the daily. I recently just finished Super Meat Boy on Xbox 360, and will now be completing ilomilo along with the Halo Reach DLC. Which shouldn't take more then a couple days, and then I'll be back to figuring out what to play next.

Titles I am looking forward to playing would have to be:

BattleBlock Theater
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier
XCOM
Dead Island
The Secret World

There are others I just can't remember them at the moment.

4. I must applaud you for attacking the Gamecrush "sluts," what sparked that situation and how do you feel Gamecrush affects the image of female gamers?

Well to be honest I didn't "attack" anyone. I had a female follow me on twitter, I asked if she was "a real gamer, or a gamecrush gamer". From there we talked about our thoughts on the whole gamecrush site and people that use it and such. Out of nowhere one of the gamecrush "playdates" (as they like to be called) then attacked me by taking things I said out of context, then fueling the whole gamecrush twitter blast lol.

Gamecrush in my opinion is a negative on the gaming community. In all honesty it gives us real female gamers a bad rep. But also makes males look just as bad. Cause really the site wouldn't still be up and running if people weren't using it. I would like to add that there are male playdates as well and that is just laughable.

5. When your not gaming what else do you do?

When I'm not gaming I'm usually spending time with my boyfriend of 5 years, painting or drawing, listening to music, working out, or just watching friends game on gaming streams.

6. Is there anything else you would like to share with us

I'm just a huge nerd with a very positive outlook on life, that loves cute things, has a sailor's mouth and enjoys a challenge. I'm a fan of the odd and strange. I'm twitter obsessed, always laughing and I love cheeseburgers. lol ^_^

7 Days From Hell (Comic Book Review)

|

Created by: Bryan Edward Hill & Rob Levin
Key Artists: Brian Stelfreeze
Genre: Supernatural/Thriller

7 Days From Hell is published by Top Cow, the same folks responsible for The Darkness series and Witchblade. From the very beginning I will state this comic is both good and bad. The art and story of the comic is incredible but the downfall is 7 Days is included in Top Cow's Pilot Season Series. This basically means their will only be one issue, the pilot season series is compiled of a bunch of one shot comics and the fans can visit the Top Cow site and vote on their favorite. The plot of 7 Days stars John Bishop and he is a retired mercenary that is murdered.

In his process of going to hell, a rebellious renegade demon named Mandy makes him a offer to redeem himself. John is hired by Mandy to be her assasin to seek out and kill criminals but he only has 7 Days to kill each target or he is sent to Hell. I really hope 7 Days is turned into a movie, tv series, or even a series of comics. The Bruce Willis movie Surrogates started in Pilot Season, so maybe their is hope.

Thought Process of a Gamer - Siouxsie Kate

|
Peace everyone this is a new feature that we are working on showcasing different gamers from all cultures and walks of life. I am very proud to post this feature of the newest member of the 1081 family, Siouxsie Kate aka Susie Hulk aka Susie Smackem. Some of you may have seen Dance Central for Dummies featuring videos by Siouxsie but what you didn't know is that Siouxsie Kate is a moderator on 1000 Fraggers, a writer for Gamentrain, and she just recently launched her site SiouxsieKate.com Peep the interview, the links, and don't for get to follow Susiehulk on twitter @siouxsiekate.

1. Where are you from?
Brisbane, Australia

2. What's your favorite games, what are your currently playing right now, what titles are you looking forward too?
I'm playing a lot of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops. I'm also a massive fan of the Fallout series and playing games on Kinect - especially Dance Central. There are so many great games out there! In 2011 I am most looking forward to playing Homefront, Duke Nukem Forever, L.A. Noire, and Battlefield 3!

3.What's you definition of a good gaming squad or team?
For me people not reading the map is or listening to their surroundings pisses me off, what's some of your gaming pet peeves?

Clear and concise communication and only snipe in limited circumstances.

4. When your not gaming what else do you do?
I work part-time in an office, I have 2 cats that keep me sane (yet drive me crazy at the same time), I'm into all sort of music but primarily listen to heavy metal. I'm also a bookworm!

5. So you've played with my bro EOP aka eyeofphases aka Beautiful, don't you agree he is a cheater?
If EOP is a cheater, then he must think Kinect Sports is like golf because he's always got the lower scores ;-) Infinity on the other hand is the cheater!

6. Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
I'm a bit of an oxymoron, and I don't fit into any kind of stereotypical category - I listen to metal yet I don't have a 'metal' look, I collect Barbie dolls, I play video games, I love cartoons, I hate clothes shopping - I'm just me :-) and Duke Nukem is my husband, alright?

Gibson Creates Dethklok Guitar

|

The Adult Swim comedy cartoon Metalocalypse has not only become a highly successful television show with a huge fanbase, but has also created the famous fictional death metal band Dethklok. The music written for Dethklok has led to the release of multiple albums, transcription books, and now even a new guitar.

The guitar in question will be a special model of the Gibson Explorer. Adult Swim released the following statement about the upcoming release of the instrument:

“Available beginning next month at Gibson Guitar dealers throughout the U.S., the Dethklok 'Thunderhorse' Explorer is a top-flight metal guitar patterned after the animated band’s lead guitarist, Skwisgaar Skwigelf’s weapon of choice.”

“It features a gloss Silverburst finish with cream top and fingerboard binding. It is equipped with Burstbucker 1 and Burstbucker 2 pickups and is decked out with chrome hardware. The limited-edition guitar will be available for a suggested retail price of $2699.”

Brendon Small, who is one of the show’s main writers as well as the man behind composing Dethklok’s music, also commented on the guitar:

“Though our show is a crazy comedy, we managed to target a very large guitar playing audience. I think that’s because despite all the joking I do on the show, I take the guitar playing and the way the guitar is presented on the show quite seriously! It may be the only thing I take seriously! Well, I take chocolate seriously too.”

“Anyway, it's great to see the fans responding to the guitar and the music through buying CD and guitar tab books! But I have to say I never knew I'd be lucky enough to design a Gibson Explorer!! This Silverburst is amazing. It sounds beautiful and I've been putting it through the tests on my solo record and it sounds absolutely beautiful! I am officially the luckiest man alive!”

Whats going on everybody, it has been a while since I've posted last. So I figured to post about a new hobby of mine. Well its not really new, I've always been interested in comic books but I've always been discouraged with the lack of strong female and minority characters. Me personally I would love to see Black Panther in Marvel Vs Capcom 3 since Storm is already in it. Some links are below, check them out, especially share them with the youth. Hello family,

It's been a very long time since I've made a post on 1081 but I am still an avid reader and a fan. So today while I was teaching it came to me that today was the 96th anniversary of the film that I feel set the scene for some of the ludicrous portrayal of our strong black men. It angers me greatly that even in 2011 people still feel this way to a certain degree. I pray that one day things will change but the only thing I can do is my part and ask that you do yours too. If you've never seen this film take a moment of your time. It is a silent film but it will really give you insight to some of today's ignorance...

Peace

~Infinity

Teaching Slavery (REPOST)

|
I wanted to repost this, to express the importance of education to our youth. No matter what we obtain in life regardless of race, knowledge can never be taken from us.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Greetings everyone, I want to thank Infinity for bringing this situation to my attention. This posting was originally Posted on WOMANIST MUSINGS, I wanted to share it with all of my readers. Please check out this blog there is alot of valuable information posted.

One cannot teach American history without teaching slavery. When doing so with African American children, it must be handled very carefully. It is a source of great pain and suffering. Even though today we are free as a people, the psychic memory of what our ancestors went through still haunts us.

I remember watching roots with my parents when it originally aired. I had nightmares for weeks. I did not understand, and was terrified that I would be treated like the blacks that I saw on television.

A teacher in Rockland County decided to use tape to bind the hands and legs of two little black girls, and then force them to lie under a desk to teach them what it was like to be a slave. One of the little girls cried throughout the whole experience, as the white teacher explained to the children the conditions the slaves endured during the middle passage.

From her privileged position she could not imagine how traumatic this could be to two little black girls. Even when spoken to about her teaching tactics, she refused to apologize. To make matters worse this woman still has a job. Each day these girls get to face the woman that decided it was okay to publicly shame them. How many more tears do our children have to shed?

How many different kinds of wrong is this? Seriously, imagine the horror, shame, and embarrassment, of those two little girls in front of their peer group. This is not a fucking joke.

I wonder if while she was binding their hands she was imagining herself back in the times when this was an everyday occurrence. Who the hell thinks that it is acceptable to tie up two little girls, to teach them about anything? To then add the indignity of pronouncing them slaves is almost more than I can bare.

Everyday there are examples of how racism continues to be an issue in our society, despite the lie that we are living in a post racial world. Blacks are told we are to sensitive when we complain, and whites continue to deny their unearned privilege. It seems continually we are reminded that we are different, but we are expected to accept it silently.'

'The minute we complain, we are uppity Negroes, trying to use a crutch to get an unfair advantage. Can you just imagine the uproar if a black teacher had decided to tie up two little white girls? Hell it would be all over CNN. Two little white girls would be deemed to fragile and pure for such treatment.

At what point are we entitled to our dignity? Slavery is something that is very painful to people of colour, and to see the memory and legacy of it disrespected in this way, is harmful not only to the children that were bound, but to each and every single person of colour that is daily subjected to racism.

It is my hope that the parents will organize and get this woman fired. No one who thinks that it is acceptable to tie up two little girls has any place in a classroom. There are many methods that could have been employed to teach about slavery, but this certainly was not a good pedagogical decision.

Okay WPD tell me that this isn't really racist. Go on, tell me that I am being too sensitive. Find a way to twist this story so that I am the racist and not the teacher who bound these children. You see, I know the one thing that whiteness has perfected over generations; the ability to find every excuse possible to excuse its privilege.
